A RELATIONSHIP BUILT OVER YEARS

Josh and Rebecca met at Skip’s Music. Josh managed backline, rentals, and production; Rebecca taught bass and coached bands in Stairway to Stardom. Years spent teaching, rehearsing, and working shows with local musicians helped shape the way they run Sacramento Sound Solutions.
Josh’s work with Skip’s production team included regional festivals such as Gold Rush Days and the Sacramento Valley Scottish Games. Rebecca brings experience as a performer, house engineer, and stage manager. Today, they draw on that experience to help musicians learn their equipment, prepare for shows, and record their work.
Skip Maggiora opened the first Skip’s Music in 1973, beside a bowling alley at 24th Street and Florin Road. He ran the store on his own for its first six months. His approach was simple: understand what working musicians needed and give them a place to find the equipment, advice, and support to keep playing.
That idea grew beyond the store. Stairway to Stardom began in 1981, bringing young musicians together to form bands, rehearse, record, and perform. Weekend Warriors followed in 1997, helping adults return to music—or play in a band for the first time. Both programs made playing with other people part of the learning experience.
Skip’s influence reached beyond Sacramento. He shared the Weekend Warriors concept with other music retailers, helping inspire similar programs around the world. His legacy lives in the musicians who found their first band, their confidence on stage, or their way back to playing through Skip’s Music.
